RealStreet currently has a great opportunity for a Land Survey Crew Chief in Chicago, IL. This individual will support our client, a professional engineering firm that offers a variety of environmental, engineering, industrial hygiene and survey services to clients throughout the Midwest. Job Responsibilities

The Land Survey Crew Chief will direct the work of survey parties engaged on surveying the earth’s surface and spaces for construction, map making, land divisions and titles.

Additional responsibilities of the Land Survey Crew Chief include:

  • Research previous survey evidence to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours
  • Developing new data from photogrammetric records
  • Determines methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control
  • Coordinating and responsible for the scope of work, to include:
    • Engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others concerned with project
    • Conducting activities of the crew as directed by the Project Manager
  • Instructing field crew members on proper procedures and methods
  • Operating and maintaining issues related to
  • GPS and robotic equipment
  • Optical and digital levels
  • Administrative responsibilities, to include:
  • Maintaining equipment and vehicle’s assigned to survey crew
  • Keeps accurate and complete notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Job Requirements

Requirements of the Land Survey Crew Chief role include:
  • Three (3) plus years survey related experience or equivalent combination of college or technical school training
  • Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry
  • Experience working with the following is a required:
    • Trimble GPS and Robotic Total Station, Trimble TX8 3D Scanner a plus
    • IDOT (Illinois Dept of Transportation) codes
  • Project experience with the following is desired:
    • ISTHA(Illinois State Toll Highway Authority)
    • IDOT route survey and land acquisition
    • CDWM (Chicago Dept of Water Management)
    • CDA(Chicago Dept of Aviation)
