We currently have a great assignment for a Mechanical Engineer. This individual will support our client, a construction management firm helping their clients manage large, complex construction projects. Job Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer will join our client’s engineering team in Jacksonville, NC and will provide technical oversight for the design, installation and acceptance of mechanical systems.
Responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer include:
- Reviewing HVAC designs focusing on constructability of systems, Duct Air Leakage Testing (DALT), Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) and system performance
- Verifying TAB requirements are incorporated in the construction documents per Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) requirements
- Reviewing Performance Verification Testing (PVT) designs to ensure the controls system is controls system is complete, functional and meets the applicable UFC and UFGS requirements
- Witnessing mechanical system testing, which consists of site inspection, TAB verification, DALT and PVT for facility HVAC and other mechanical systems prior to construction completion
- Validating design installation, system balancing, digital controls, equipment start and operation for the following:
- Air handlers
- Chillers
- Pumps
- Boilers
- Terminal equipment
- Energy recovery and renewable energy
- Distribution systems
- Verifying proper installation, operation and programming of Building Management Systems to ensure that they meet project specifications and operate per sequence of operations
Job Requirements
Specific qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited ABET university and possess a current professional engineer (PE) license combined with 5 years’ experience, or possess a current professional engineer (PE) license with 10 years’ minimum experience in mechanical engineering field
- Ten (10) years of experience in startup, acceptance testing and performance field verification of commercial HVAC systems equipment and associated controls systems
- Knowledge of complex mechanical engineering concepts, principles and practices on the entire range of mechanical engineering construction activities for facilities construction
- Knowledge in the use of test equipment and instrumentation are required for the balance of air flow, water flow, pump & fan performance and heat exchange equipment performance
- Knowledge of gas and fluid flow balancing techniques as associated with HVAC systems is required
- Experience using the following is required:
- Manometers
- Venturis
- Thermal imaging devices
- Air and water meters in balancing systems
- In depth understanding of HVAC and industrial control system operation, sequencing techniques and system optimization is required
- Advanced knowledge of design principles, government criteria and industry codes and standards are required
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must be able to pass a Public Trust background check
