We currently have a great assignment for a Project Manager (Wastewater) with one of our top clients.  As a Project Manager (Wastewater), you will be supporting our client, a full-service engineering and construction firm providing lasting and integrated solutions in water, environment, transportation, energy and facilities to public and private clients.

Job Responsibilities

The Project Manager (Wastewater) will be working on the City’s Wastewater Capital Improvement Program.  The Project Manager (Wastewater) will be responsible for initiating projects, scoping projects, obtaining funding approval, writing pre-design reports, coordinating design activities, conducting technical workshops, writing Board Reports and managing project schedules / budgets, to include:

  • Managing designs done in-house by City staff as well as designs performed by outside consulting firms
  • Conducting independent investigations and collecting data
  • Leading multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Working with Bureau of Sanitation and Bureau of Engineering to understand problems and recommend solutions with respect to wastewater treatment processes
  • Conducting site visits to perform treatment process evaluations and assisting with defining project scopes
  • Preparing and compiling technical memorandums, concept reports and pre-design reports
  • Identifying design resource requirements and coordinating design team duties
  • Providing information to designers to ensure that designs are progressing
  • Initiating and managing the design of wastewater treatment plant projects consisting of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and structural components
  • Conducting weekly design meetings to facilitate design efforts
  • Monitoring and tracking project expenditures to ensure that budgets are adhered to
  • Monitoring and tracking project schedules to ensure that projects are completed on time

Specific qualifications for the Project Manager (Wastewater) role include:

  • BS or MS in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed Civil or Mechanical Engineer in the State of California
  • Minimum of 10 years project management experience in the field of wastewater treatment or related field
  • Basic knowledge of wastewater treatment principals and their translation to studies, designs and the construction of those facilities
  • Basic knowledge in the areas of hydraulic calculations, process calculations / computer simulations, environmental chemistry and environmental biology
  • Basic knowledge of various processes such as headworks, primary clarifiers, aeration basins, secondary clarifiers, BNR processes, disinfection processes, anaerobic digestion, solids dewatering, digester gas management & cleaning, co-generation and membrane processes
  • Good understanding of safety issues including California OSHA regulations
  • Must have or attain the Envision Specialist (ENV SP) certification within 2 months of being hired
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project software packages
