RealStreet currently has a great opportunity for a Senior Estimator in Washington, District of Columbia. This individual will support our client, a growing design build construction firm in Maryland with projects across the Mid-Atlantic region. Job Responsibilities

The Senior Estimator is responsible for providing estimating services for procuring work through the leadership of the Preconstruction Manager. Products delivered include budgets, estimates, schedules, subcontracts, and pre-construction services. The Senior Estimator must be a flexible and an adaptable team-player, as well as have effective communication and client service skills.
Responsibilities of the Senior Estimator include:

  • Arranges and assembles work teams and solicit vendor quotes
  • Assists in the development of bid strategies for projects
  • Creates subcontractor solicitation lists and ensures coverage on all scopes of work
  • Delivers preconstruction services:
    • Constructability review
    • System analysis
    • Value management
  • Assists Preconstruction Manager by:
    • Negotiating subcontracts
    • Purchasing of all major aspects of the project
  • Creates and delegates scope assignments to other estimating team members
  • Performs select quantity:
    • Take off
    • Pricing
    • Site visits
    • Pre-bid meetings
  • Thoroughly reviews all take-off and pricing, specifically self-performed work
  • Merges estimates, review for completeness and errors
  • Develops the job cost budget and co-chair the turnover and transitions meetings
  • Develops owner’s:
    • Deliverables
    • Estimates summary
    • Details
    • Clarifications

Job Requirements

Specific qualifications for the Senior Estimator include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
  • Five (5) years of commercial construction experience
  • Experience working on:
    • Hard-bid projects
    • Garnering solid subcontractor participation
    • Interpret and prepare design documents detailed estimates
    • Must have knowledge and understanding of unit costs and the factors that affect construction cost
    • Ability to prepare detailed instructions to bidders
    • Trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages
    • Must have experience writing and negotiating subcontracts
  • Preferred experience includes: 
    • Setting-up value Engineering sessions with the project team
    • Being a member of the team involved in proposal/RFP response writing and the formal presentation for a project 
    • Field experience
    • K-12, higher-education projects
    • Healthcare projects
  • Proficient in:
    • Microsoft Office Suite, latest version
    • Timberline, latest version
    • OST, latest version PlanSwift, latest version
    • Project Management software such as (Prolog or similar)
    • Scheduling software such as (Primavera or similar)
