We currently have a great assignment for an Engineering Manager, Utility Design, with one of our top clients.  As an Engineering Manager, Utility Design, you will be supporting our client, a well-respected multi-disciplined engineering firm.  Recognized as an ENR Top 500 Design Firm, this company has a diverse portfolio of projects involving utilities, highways, bridges, water resources, mass transit facilities, as well as water and wastewater facilities.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Associate of Utilities, the Engineering Manager, Utility Design will be responsible for overseeing an array of projects while managing and mentoring the team.  The majority of such utilities project work involves counties or the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC).  Specific duties include the following: 

  • Facilitate scope meetings with clients to construct needs analysis and project definitions and establish budget
  • Provide engineering expertise and knowledge by directing team through all project phases from conceptual / preliminary design, detailed design, to execution
  • Oversee and assist with all aspects of planning, design and rehabilitation components of project and manage team daily to meet and exceed project goals, tasks and requirements while mentoring junior engineers (typically 1-2 at a given time)
  • Oversee variety of projects in size and scope and at times, manage projects running concurrently based on company workload
  • Ensure deliverables and quality standards are met in accordance with the agreed upon scope, schedule and budget
  • Participate in client presentations and meeting updates throughout project lifecycle and manage all follow-up Actions Items
  • Closely manage budget to ensure project is completed on time and within budget
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans when deviations from budgets and schedules are evident
  • Report project and financial metrics to department manager
  • Assist with marketing endeavors as specified and needed
Job Requirements

Specific qualifications for the Engineering Manager, Utility Design role include:

  • 10-15 years of experience in planning, design and rehabilitation of water distribution and wastewater collection systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both employees and clients
  • Direct supervisory experience required
  • Experience with Maryland client agency relations and prior experience with SHA, Anne Arundel County and WSSC required
  • PE license in Maryland required
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or similar area of study required
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and AutoCAD preferred

*Client is open to relocation however candidate must have an active PE license in Maryland.*
