We currently have a great assignment for an Estimator (Construction) with one of our top clients. As an Estimator (Construction), you will be supporting our client, a construction management and general contracting firm recently named one of the “Greatest Places to Work”.

Job Responsibilities

The Estimator (Construction) position is based in Baltimore, Maryland. Typical projects range between $1M and $50M supporting a wide range of sectors including Commercial, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Residential, Education and Industrial. The Estimator (Construction) will be responsible for RFP responses, conceptual budgeting, CM trade package bidding and lump sum bidding to be delivered under various construction delivery methods, and other duties include:

  • Updating and maintaining estimating software, support services, departmental reference materials, department data, and the Master Call Sheet & Master Estimate template
  • Reviewing bid documents submitted by clients, identifying specific requirements necessary for a complete bid, identifying missing information and formulating questions to generate missing information
  • Attending pre-bid meetings and site visits to prepare for bidding
  • Developing a detailed estimate template customized for each bid and performing take-offs and in-house pricing as required to assist with estimates
  • Developing budget and entering it into draft estimate
  • Maintaining a list of prequalified subcontractors, suppliers and vendors
  • Developing and maintaining a Call Sheet for each bid and developing a Bid Invitation to be used for direct solicitation of bids
  • Reviewing subcontractor bids and determining if the bid is subject to special exclusions or reservations.
  • Evaluating bids to ensure they cover the scope of work
  • Identifying and documenting qualifications and clarifications required for each bid
  • Awarding subcontracts
  • As needed, writing Scope of Work for subcontractors and overall estimate
  • Participating in transfer of data from the Estimating department to Accounting
  • Maintaining Plan Room bid board, documents and website bid board

Job Requirements

Specific qualifications for the Estimator (Construction) role include:

  • B.S. Degree or higher in engineering, construction management or similar applicable discipline is preferred
  • 5 years minimum of experience estimating for commercial and institutional construction projects between $2M - $30M
  • Experience handling multiple jobs / estimates at one time
  • Experience with Sage (Timberline) Estimating Extended software and PlanSwift takeoff software
  • Experience estimating MEP systems preferred
  • Ability to write, modify and collaborate on specific scopes of work
