We currently have a great assignment for a Heavy Highway / Civil Sr. Project Manager with one of our top clients.  As a Heavy Highway / Civil Sr. Project Manager, you will be supporting our client, a general contractor specializing in grading, paving, utilities, storm drains and laying pipe.

Job Responsibilities

The Heavy Highway / Civil Sr. Project Manager will work jointly with the Project Manager and Superintendent to ensure the overall success of assigned projects.  The Heavy Highway / Civil Sr. Project Manager will oversee multiple projects worth $5 million to $100 million and will participate in the allocation of resources to ensure safe, timely and quality projects, achieving and improving their profit margins.  The Heavy Highway / Civil Sr. Project Manager is the primary contact with Owner’s Representatives, Subcontractors, Suppliers and other company departments and personnel and pursues exemplary business relationships, to include:

  • Preparing and reviewing payment requisitions, communicating changes in costs and reporting on financial status on a monthly basis
  • Monitoring Subcontractor performance to ensure that they are in compliance with all provisions and requirements of their contract with the Company
  • Proactively following-up with Engineering Owner’s Representative to facilitate project schedule and ensure that subcontracts are drafted and executed in a timely fashion
  • Developing an effective plan in conjunction with the Superintendent for constructing the project and helping determine the means and methods necessary (including individual work activities) to meet project goals
  • Communicating planned means and methods to appropriate parties associated with the project to ensure understanding of goals and responsibilities and ensure that means and methods will maximize production, assure quality, minimize costs and promote safety
  • Managing the design process on design-build projects, including the design engineering firm and reviewing plans for constructability and cost savings
  • Developing a schedule in conjunction with the Superintendent that complies with customer needs, adheres to the terms of the contract and supports planning needs of the company
  • Assuming responsibility for profit margins and fully managing all financial aspects of the project, while monitoring and maintaining the minimum profit margin projected at job start
  • Maintaining excellent customer satisfaction levels at all times by addressing client concerns in a timely manner and ensuring all correspondences are produced with a high level of professionalism
  • Facilitating appropriate inspections and testing to ensure that the project is constructed to quality requirements of contract documents and meets or exceeds governmental regulatory requirements
  • Proactively reviewing sites for safe working conditions, conducting and reporting incident investigations with the Superintendent and demonstrating safety-conscious behavior
  • Working with Superintendents on annual job performance reviews

Job Requirements

Specific qualifications for the Heavy Highway / Civil Sr. Project Manager role include: 

  • A. High School Diploma with a minimum of 15 years progressive construction experience, 7 in a leadership role


  • B. Associate or Bachelor degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a Business-related field with a minimum of 10 years progressive construction experience, 4 in a leadership role
  • Project Management experience in heavy highway and civil site work (vertical construction not desirable, but will consider those with vertical experience); VDOT experience preferred but Government experience acceptable
  • Experience using Primavera P6 scheduling software, MS Project, MS Office Suite and Procore

This position requires frequent field visits, 50% field and 50% office, or as necessary
