We currently have a great opportunity for a President with one of our top clients.  As President, you will be supporting our client, a well-respected Mid-Atlantic general contracting firm headquartered in York, Pennsylvania.  This firm specializes in servicing the senior living, urban, institutional, healthcare and higher education markets.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

The President will be directly responsible for all aspects of the company’s daily and strategic initiatives.  In addition to managing the Estimating and Operations departments, the President will be responsible for market development, working with customers on pre-construction efforts and serving as General Contractor, Construction Manager at risk or as agent on major projects.  Additional responsibilities include the following within specific categories listed below:

 

Personnel

  • Build and lead a high-performance work team
  • Ensure optimum performance of the entire organization
  • Develop an adequate plan for backup and succession of management and other key personnel including cross-training
  • Monitor performance of direct reports and provide prompt and objective performance reviews, coaching and counseling
  • Ensure that the company’s vision, mission, values, management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced

Safety/Quality Control

  • Lead safety culture, continue to look for new programs and incentives and help sustain positive culture that has already been created
  • Ensure field leaders are leading by example and following set initiatives
  • Create and implement a formal written Quality Control program and ensure direct reports have bought in and are accountable
  • Formalize plan for due diligence on subcontractors

Customer Satisfaction/Business Development

  • Implement plans specific to each client
  • Stay actively engaged with owners during all phases of construction
  • Help increase volume while maintaining profitability
  • Add technical expertise to company in the medical and educational fields

Operations

  • Formalize a multi-step C/O review process
  • Help company become more strategic in its use of IT as an effective advantage
  • Mitigate exposure to water claims.
  • Project plan prior to starting construction on any major project
  • Help find and capitalize on synergies with company subsidiary
  • Formalize risk management review process
  • Review all monthly cost-to-complete estimates

Planning & Forecasting

  • Develop financial strategy that is linked to the organization’s strategic plan
  • Responsible for long range financial planning and forecasting including quarterly updates of the 24 month cash flow forecast in consultation with the Accounting / Tax / Finance Department
  • Study, analyze and report on trends, opportunities for expansion and projections of future company growth
  • Develop short and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure and staffing requirements

Process & Control

  • Recommend and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities and employ best practices
  • Further the implementation of Lean Construction within the company

Miscellaneous

  • Actively participate as an Executive Committee Member including yearly Strategic Planning meetings and periodic review meetings
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedure manuals
  • Participate in community activities, non-profits, etc.

Job Requirements

 

Specific qualifications for the role of President include the following:

  • Minimum of 10 years of proven experience with leadership roles and responsibilities in the construction industry
  • Experience managing marketing, sales and responding to RFP’s
  • Experience negotiating various contract types
  • Proven experience managing design-build projects and serving as Project Manager on significant projects
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and job cost reporting
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Business Administration preferred
  • Familiarity with BIM, Integrated Project Delivery Systems
  • Active USGBC LEED AP certification beneficial
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills a must

*This position will require residence in the Central Pennsylvania area with a willingness to travel throughout the region as market development and project performance oversight may require.
