We currently have a great assignment for a Project Estimator with one of our top clients.  As a Project Estimator, you will be supporting our client, a leader in the design and creation of customizable blast-resistant buildings for commercial and government customers nationwide.

Job Responsibilities


The Project Estimator will be responsible for developing and coordinating project estimates by analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation while working closely with production department, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders in order to prepare time, cost and labor estimates for products, projects or services, and shall:

  • Read and review requests for quotes (RFQs), requests for proposals (RFPs), statements of work (SOW), specifications, drawings and other customer-supplied documents to gain full understanding of project requirements
  • Evaluate projects for constructability, research unknown variables and value-engineer for maximum cost savings
  • Clarify project requirements, seek missing data and effectively communicate schedule with sales
  • Communicate all project requirements to management, suppliers, vendors, legal, supply chain, production, sales and others stakeholders
  • Research and gain deeper understanding of project-specific requirements in order to identify specialty subcontractors and suppliers that fulfill the unique requirements of the project
  • Consult with sales, clients, vendors or other pertinent individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
  • Determine material and labor requirements for use in estimating project price at acceptable profit margin set by company
  • Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database as well as a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized
  • Collaborate with designer / drafter & engineering department to develop floor plans, elevation views and other bid documentation
  • Understand and evaluate company’s risk as part of the proposal preparation process
  • Produce project proposal and other bid presentation documents and also support sales in presentations and client Q & A
  • Analyze completed projects with manufacturing accounting to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies
  • Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs
  • Keep abreast of market trends and competition
  • Promote and hold others accountable for a safe working environment
  • Observe safety and security procedures

Specific qualifications for the Project Estimator role include the following:

  • 3+ years of prior construction estimation, project management or manufacturing estimating experience required in order to design, price and manage custom products
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Business from an accredited university required
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, mechanical, electrical, structural, site and floor plan drawings, as well as specifications, regulations, statements of work and standard technical documents
  • Understanding of basic construction practices required in order to design and price custom modules
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; working knowledge of Sage Timberline (and Estimating Explorer by Sage Timberline) preferred
  • Strong verbal, written, listening, and communication skills a must
  • Knowledge of how to calculate and estimate project costs and apply margin to ensure profitability goals are met is required
  • Prior experience working on federal government contracts including knowledge of FAR and DFAR clauses and other federal agency requirements preferred
